Last Saturday brought another incredible day on the water. We headed west through the Golden Gate to begin our search for humpback whales. Along the way, we encountered an abundance of harbor porpoises, along with a few harbor seals and sea lions.

Once we reached the green buoys we had visited the previous weekend, everyone began scanning the horizon. The only recent whale reports placed them much farther offshore near the Farallon Islands, but it wasn’t long before we spotted spouts in the distance.

We soon found two humpback whales and had the opportunity to watch them feeding and breaching. One was noticeably smaller than the other, suggesting they may have been a mother and calf pair. We also enjoyed a closer look at several sea lions resting on the nearby buoys.

It was another memorable Whales of the Bay adventure, and the season is still going strong!
