The whales are still here! This past Saturday’s Whales of the Bay cruise delivered another exciting day on the water.

We headed beyond the Golden Gate in search of humpback whales just offshore. Along the way, we encountered plenty of harbor porpoises and sea lions, including many resting on buoys. With no whale reports from other mariners, our naturalist and crew relied on sharp eyes and a little patience.

Just as we reached the farthest point of our journey and prepared to turn back, a spout appeared in the distance. We were rewarded with a brief but memorable look at a large humpback whale!

The surprises didn’t end there. We also spotted five or six thresher sharks leaping and spinning out of the water both inside and outside the Bay. It was a rare and thrilling sight that made an already wonderful trip even more remarkable.

Every Whales of the Bay cruise is a new adventure, and we can’t wait to see what this weekend brings!
